Hamish Browne

Career Profile

I am a friendly, motivated, reliable, and hard-working college student. I am skilled and experienced at designing, fixing and fabricating mechanical and electronic devices and systems and am familiar with many tools and building materials. I love designing and making things, problem solving, and helping people. My long term goal is to design, test, build and improve sustainable transportation technology. View at www.hobb.info.

My short-term goal is to find a challenging and rewarding co-op position for January 2023 so I can apply some of my skills and work with a team in a professional environment.

Experience

Head of Engineering
Fusion Boards 2019-2020
I led a small team designing and building high-performance electric skateboards. my responsibilities included component research, design work, CAD and 3D printing, supply chain management of parts (from China), construction of battery banks and carbon fiber enclosures, assembly and testing.

Technologies Used: CAD (Fusion 360, SolidWorks), 3D Printing, Fiberglassing, Deck shaping, Component research, Soldering.

Marine Electrical Tech
Self-Employed 2019-2020
I successfully converted a 41 foot ketch sailboat from diesel to electric. This process involved extensive research, calculations and design, fibre-glassing, wiring and troubleshooting. It was a year-long project which I successfully completed. I also designed, built and installed a carbon fibre arch with solar panels. The electric conversion has proved out with over 2 years of sustainable cruising.

Technologies Used: Electrical system modelling, Cable management, Harness crimping, Composite work, Solar panel and controller installation, 48v 400amp battery bank, Trouble shooting and Testing.

Aviation and Design Student
Mount Douglas Secondary 2020-2020
Courses included: Airplane Pilot Ground School (94%), Aviation Systems/ Design (99%), and Aviation Fabrication (100%)

Technologies Used: Rivets, Wind tunnel, Hot wire foam cutter, Composites

Projects

Electric Sailboat - Converted a 41 foot Dufour ketch sailboat from diesel to a 48v, 400 amp battery with an 18KW liquid cooled electric motor, with an 800w solar array.
Electric Skateboards - I have designed, built, tested, and sold over a dozen electric skateboards. the latest of which is 4wd with 175mm pneumatic tires and a custom made carbon fiber and PLA deck.
Electric Trike - I needed an inexpensive ride to zip from Metchosin to Camosun three times a week. I welded a trike frame, designed and built the drive system, built a custom battery enclosure, and programmed the control system.
UAV Drones - I have designed and built many drones over the years. My fave is my race drone with a FPV camera and goggles.
